THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF SONG is a slick tribute to Arlen’s hits like 'Stormy Weather" and "Blues in the Night" performed by The 3 Crooners (George Bugatti, Marcus Goldhaber & Joe Shepherd) and the very appealing Antoinette Henry, jazzing it up as Ethel Waters, Pearl Bailey, and herself. It ends with a sweet medley of songs from THE WIZARD OF OZ sung against cut footage and costume tests.

If you’re in the mood to hear some of the top standards of the Great American Songbook, from “Stormy Weather” to “Over the Rainbow,” you might want to bundle up and head over to St. Luke’s Theatre, where “The Wonderful Wizard of Song: The Music of Harold Arlen” is holding forth. Bugatti’s rendering of “The Man That Got Away,” its Ira Gershwin lyric sex-changed to “gal,” is galvanizing in its mix of anger and regret and ties in smartly with “One for My Baby” and other numbers. A professional and entertaining offering.
Worth a trip to enjoy the undeniably remarkable music of Harold Arlen and the memorable lyrics of his notable collaborators.
